Imperial Ship Rewards

Maybe Jin2 can figure it out. :0)
Jin2 have not bought an Imperial Ship yet but the MS and SS are not bad. SS don't give shards for regiment that has to be unlock yet.

There's so many changes in my 2nd journey. It bear hardly any resemblance to how Old Warlords was at the beginning.

Saving my Diamonds for another possible title run down the road. Once everyone else uses theirs up and it won’t take as much (although honestly hoping the PVP format is revamped before then so it isn’t just a bidding war).
In 1-2 months I think that I'll be competitive for top 100 and then I'll use my diamonds for rr, but till then I think I'll have the resources to take another Imperial Ship. After I'll reach WL23, the main sources of diamonds for me (warlord leveling) will disappear so I'll have to concentrate on other sources like seasons

I don’t remember who but some ancient WL used to claim on average many Smugglers were better than one imperial. It was close then but I think with recent changes things may have swung heavily in favor of the smugglers.
No data - just an impression I get.
well it depends what your aim is. If you do the math:
1800 diamonds = 1 Imperial Ship = maximum 80 shards and 14% chance to get gold, 40% upgrades and maximum 10 slots in the chest to get stuff (=less chance for upgrades)
1800 diamonds = 9 and 1/2 Smugglers Ships = maximum 95 shards, 3% gold chance, 72% upgrades and 47 slots to get stuff

So if you aim towards shards and upgrades and you want more stuff in general I guess the Smuggler Ships are better
But if you need the gold the Imperial Ship is better.
Anyway on a general scale it seems that more Smuggler Ships are better for the same price of an Imperial Ship. Till now I aimed towards Imperial Ships because I needed the gold. Since the Strongholds were introduced gold is way easier so I might aim for shards or just keep my diamonds for rr.

I may be having an extended unlucky run with smuggler ships but the last dozen or so have really felt under par.
I’m getting unneeded white and green items almost exclusively (the occasional purple) with 1 shard of a regiment I don’t use (monster reg’s usually). Wonder if things are still set up here to promote our weakest units, such as we struggled with recently (GH or TB for most people).

Used to get the thrill of ‘what will I get today?’...now it’s ‘yawn’.
Always had good and bad ships...just been a long run now...

Edit: just picked up another SS: all white with 2 LP shards: he’s at the bottom of my use list too.

There was indeed a long lasting discussion about what ship is better. Candle kind of convinced me that 9 SS are better than 1 IS, but this may be true for low-mid warlords. For mid and higher warlords I would not recommend to buy any.
These days 1800 dimonds can help you to reroll pvp battles. In fact, this could be enough to get to the top 10 if you are a mid-high warlord or to the top 100 if you are a mid one. The extra WC that you get from skipping the division are enough to buy at least 10 shards that you really need. So I would spend dimons on rerolls latter on rather than buying ships.

Both Imperial and Smuggler Ships used to be random and you would end up with many useless ones after you had five star Regiments. I hear now they only give ones you still need to promote

Not sure if this makes a difference or not.

@Lesterio. Are you still convinced that 9×SS is better than 1×IS for early to mid stage WoA? I believe that you can get better items from IS rather than SS, correct?

Honesty, I don't know what is better but if had to choose I would vote for 9×SS. With 9 SS you have 45 slots and each of them can be a shard, an item or gold. So statistically speaking you have higher chances to get better rewards.... but... IS is much more exciting :). You have this huge one-shot lottery, which is more fun...:D

Have not seen 50 diamonds in ages, so stopped playing the 675 gold lottery. But in the free get 1 ticket, I got 50 yesterday AND today...

Thanks, I don't have 4* units yet, so everything is useful from this ship including the potions as my highest Reg is lvl 21, so this was a big score for me.

Can I ask the question another way? I like the math in this thread. I see that ships give shards than just buying them from the merchant. But, if the prevailing wisdom is to work on 8+10 units, does it make more sense for a low lvl player to buy shards directly and avoid the random useless shards in ships? By useless I mean for units not in our top 10?

With the ships, not only are you getting shards, but the possibility of getting large piles of gold, potions, upgrades, and items.

Do you risk getting shards you don't want?

Yep.

It's pretty fun spinning that wheel, though.

Nobody will argue with a Warlord who chooses to wait and buy specific shards from the merchant, ideally when on sale.

Is the warship dependant on your WL and how many units you have? Should a beginner save on those gems until they have WL 10+ or even more?

The Warlord Gods frown on those who attempt to out-smart them.

Good luck!

Edit:

If you want to endeavor a bold move such as @Susumu_Terajima is suggesting, make sure you have your ducks in a row. Kraken, peanut butter toast, and a good dose fool-hardiness. Nonetheless, once you spin that wheel, be prepared for 10 shards you didn't want, all magic defense armor, and 6% banners. Listen...the gods are laughing.

@Mark Engle , it's more an open ended question rather than a bold move. I just would like to know if the rewards are scaling to your WL and the units that you have? Or even at WL 1 and 3 starters, you can have mythical and unlock other regiments...
